Mexico City's libraries safeguard one of the richest intellectual and documentary offerings on the continent, ranging from sophisticated literary venues with contemporary designs to historic collections housed in the capital's viceregal buildings. Visiting a library in the capital means embarking on a journey through the evolution of its intellectual and architectural life, understanding how each area has adapted the safeguarding of knowledge to its own identity.

The capital's library landscape has historically been a reflection of its cultural and social transformation. During the 19th century, the first collections and European-inspired public libraries redefined access to knowledge in the Historic Center. In the second half of the 20th century, the city experienced a boom with the arrival of large university and public libraries that transformed the educational landscape, while the 21st century has seen the rise of avant-garde buildings where reading dialogues with contemporary architecture, leisure, and community coexistence, consolidating the city as a permanent destination for researchers, students, and book lovers.

The inked journey begins in the Historic Center and its surroundings, where history coexists with documentary tradition. Spaces such as the Library of the Congress of the Union (Biblioteca del Congreso de la Unión) and the Old Temple of San Agustín (Former National Library) offer invaluable collections in environments of profound heritage value. Nearby, the Miguel Lerdo de Tejada Library and the Library of Mexico "José Vasconcelos" (La Ciudadela) keep the center's intellectual vocation alive, engaging in a dialogue with the massive and innovative offering of the Vasconcelos Library in Buenavista.

Towards the south, Coyoacán and San Ángel unfold venues marked by history, academia, and the intellectual lifestyle. Exploring the Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Library or the Center for the Study of Mexican History: Carlos Slim Foundation means discovering spaces dedicated to research and study in contemplative environments. The María and Héctor García Archive Foundation, the Library of the Revolutions of Mexico (INEHRM), and the Capilla Alfonsina are benchmarks for researchers and seekers of historical archives. For its part, the south's university vocation is reflected in the monumental UNAM campus, with its iconic Central Library, the National Hemerotheque of Mexico, and the National Library of Mexico, alongside the Institute of Biology Library and the Jesús Romo Armería Library.

The preservation of memory and science also extends to other points and disciplines. In the Tacubaya and Miguel Hidalgo area, the Manuel Orozco y Berra Map Library safeguards the national geographic heritage. Towards Cuajimalpa, the Francisco Xavier Clavigero Library is an academic pillar. Science and astronomy have their space in specialized venues like the Guillermo Haro Library, while the Ernesto de la Peña Library preserves the intellectual legacy of one of Mexico's great thinkers.
