Parque Deportivo CEDA

Located on the periphery of the largest wholesale market in the world, the sports courts of the Central de Abasto (CEDA) in the Iztapalapa borough represent the soccer core of this enormous commercial complex. This space, which regularly functions as the headquarters for local leagues and internal tournaments of the area’s workers, transforms its recreational vocation to become one of the official venues of the Soccer Festivals.

The venue is an open-air complex that stands out for its well-maintained grass surfaces. The facilities feature areas laid out for 7-a-side soccer and a closed court dedicated to indoor soccer (fútbol rápido). The perimeter is delimited by high chain-link fences and metal structures, contrasting the intense green of the turf with the purely industrial environment of the immense adjacent storage warehouses.

The atmosphere during the match broadcasts reflects the identity of the area: festive and deeply community-oriented. The sports esplanade gathers entire families, residents of nearby neighborhoods, and CEDA workers, who take a break from their workdays to follow the tournament.

The festival’s logistical infrastructure adapts this sports complex to guarantee uninterrupted entertainment. The area works simultaneously as a grand stage for the culture of Iztapalapa. The programming complements the ninety minutes of match broadcasts on giant screens with the live performance of tropical music groups, sonidero sound systems, DJs, and dance shows, turning the vicinity of the courts into a public dance floor before the opening whistles and during the celebrations.
